Jordan Peterson On Donald Trump

Jordan Peterson hasn’t been shy about talking about Donald Trump and his presidency when pressed. The London based show The Delve was given good cause to ask Jordan about the subject and was asked about the man. Additionally he also answered answered on Dave Rubin’s podcast.

The Worst Thing About Trump (according to Jordan Peterson)

In the processing of asking the question, The Delve interviewer said that “he sees the worst thing that he (Trump) makes it seem OK to be a troll, and to be a troll in real life, and to use the kind of language that he uses…”

Peterson interjected “That might be the worst thing that he does. The Trump phenomenon probably worries me less than most people think it should. But there are reasons for that. The first reason for that is that I don’t really think the American people are more polarized than they were ten years ago. The reason I think that is that for 20 years, 50% have voted for republicans and 50% voted for democrats. It hasn’t moved.”

The Best Thing About Trump (according to Peterson)

Conversely, when pressed (same interview) about the best thing Trump has done, Peterson chose something the President hasn’t done: “One thing I can say is that he hasn’t pressed the United States in an additional stupid war. That’s happened a lot in the last 50 years and the fact that hasn’t happened (in his tenure) is something I’m quite happy about.” That said, he finished the line “he’s noisy, he’s provocative, he seems impulsive although it’s hard to know how much of that is crafted, he’s disagreeable which is interesting and that comes out in his twitter behavior and so forth.

As far as the military claim is concerned, former is probably self evident, Jordan is sound here. As Time noted: “At the most basic level, the Trump strategic approach ensures a military that is well funded and combat-ready. Under him the Pentagon produced a reasonably effective National Defense Strategy. That strategy is notable for its pivot to emphasizing an emerging era of great-power competition after almost two decades of a counterterrorism strategy in the wake of 9/11.”

Overall, Trump’s military strategy has been controversial for it’s military use on the border wall (though it has survived legal challenges) and for the somewhat short lived pulling troops out of Northern Syria. A move which caused blowback from both conservatives and liberals alike.

Evaluating Trump’s IQ (according to Peterson)

Dave Rubin asked Jordan Peterson if he believes that Donald Trump’s IQ is anywhere the 160 IQ that Trump was quoted as having is anywhere near that number:

“No. But 160 is really, really high. The typical smart person that you’re likely to meet has an IQ around 145. And Trump’s old (born in 1946) and IQ tends to go down as you get older..”

However it wasn’t exactly a hit piece on Trump. 160, after all, is a , as Jordan went on to say some positive things about the mental faculties of the 45th president of the United States:

“His IQ is clearly well above average. He’s done complex things in his life and he’s been successful in multiple domains (construction and reality television)…yes he’s had some ups and downs but he’s been able to stay in the game a long time.

As always, should we become aware that Jordan has changed his opinion or should new evidence be submitted that we have either misconstrued his opinion or failed to include important statements from him, we will 1) make the correction, 2) note the correction here, 3) issue a mea culpa that attempts to explain and improve on how we missed this. This is particular article is a special case because we have limited resources or references to the subject. We assumed it’s better to arm people with factual but limited information than fictional information.
